I have to admit my first reaction when I was asked by friends to open a Twitter account when Twitter started was no way I would open another social media account for just the purpose of writing what I wanted in only 140 characters. Since English is my second language I didn't think Twitter was a type of social media which would help me convey my messages with a limited characters.
Now, I have a Twitter account after years of refusal to have one thanks to my I4Ed course. So far, I never twitted a single tweet but I have some people and sport team I follow on Twitter and got some breaking news and their latest blogs from the Twitter. I have to admit after being on Twitter for almost 4 months, I don't know how to filter tweets my choice, the use of hash-tags, or organize my tweets using hash-tags and that made not to use Twitter that often.
In my I4Ed class, our instructor showed us how educators around the world (#edteach) or educators in Manitoba (#mbedchat) use Twitter to discuss important educational issues on Twitter. I never thought Twitter could be used by teachers to connect with other educators around the world outside of the classrooms.
After seeing how Twitter can connect students and teachers outside of class locally or globally, I am very motivated to try and learn more about Twitter and involve in #I4Ed, #edteach, and #mbedchat groups to participate and learn from the group members.
Have a good day!
Twitter is not for everyone, but I am glad you got some value and want to learn more.
